The cost of healthcare in the US has reached more than $14 billion. Population health management—which aims to improve health for defined populations—could lower that figure by several hundred million dollars, says Michael Murray, senior vice president and CFO of Blue Shield of California.
To adopt this data-intensive model, the organization needed a cloud platform and digital tools that could be a foundation for data analytics capabilities. Now the company can use predictive analytics and machine learning to understand the long-term results of different healthcare interventions in different population groups. This will improve member service and help lower the cost of care.
